About the Course
This course has been designed to assist carers to help young people who are struggling with issues of suicidal ideation and/or self-harm. It will look at giving those interested in the subject a broad understanding of suicide and suicidal behaviours – looking at the similarities and possible differences.
It will also explore how carers can intervene in ways that can prevent this ideation. This course will also explore the specific vulnerabilities of care-experienced young people and those who are currently looked-after.
The learning outcomes for this course are as follows:
To understand suicide and suicidal behaviours
To explore self-harm
To consider the relationship between self-harm and suicide attempts
To look at prevention strategies
To discuss children in care and care leavers
